This terrain generation solution uses a strategy similar to games like Minecraft, with chunks that generate based on the distance to the player. A heightmap is generated, then a colormap is generated from that. Godot's 3d editor lets you use CSG shapes which is fine for prototyping, but not much details. Qodot / Trenchbroom is good for low-poly & low-detail styles, but its a struggle to get anything beyond base geometry out of it.
